A balance of retail and corporate sales has helped security software supplier McAfee Inc post a solid set of financials.
The company’s consumer business accounted for $163 million in its latest quarter, while sales to businesses came in at $261 million, the vendor has revealed as it reported latest numbers.
The anti-virus and intrusion protection provider boasted a record revenue of $424 million, an increase of 19% compared to the fourth quarter of a year ago.
“For the year, we reported revenue of $1.6 billion, an increase of 22% compared to last year. Year-over-year corporate revenue grew 25 percent, consumer revenue grew 18 percent,” McAfee’s CEO Dave DeWalt said.
Last year the company bought Secure Computing to fortify its position in the network security space, and this year has acquired Endeavor Security Inc and its intrusion prevention and detection product line.
McAfee will make more acquisitions this year, DeWalt said. “Our strategy has been buying small and medium-size companies, and we will continue that – nothing risky,” he said in an interview.
The Santa Clara, California-based company has also lately added to its European operation, with the appointment as EMEA president of David Quantrell, a former president of HP Software.During his days at HP, Quantrell helped double the software business to over $1bn and had a strong emphasis on developing channel partnerships.
The company now stands as the second biggest supplier of security software after Symantec Corp.
