SAP and Samsung target enterprise mobility market

Partnership targets your enterprise mobility strategy.

SAP and Samsung are set to build enterprise mobility solutions for mobile devices and wearables.

The collaboration between the firms could create opportunities for developers to build solutions on top of the companies’ enterprise mobility ecosystem.

The joint endeavour will integrate Samsung devices, potentially including its Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy Gear smartwatch, with SAP’s ecosystem, including the SAP Mobile Platform.

Samsung hopes that its devices will become enterprise rivals to Windows Phones and BlackBerrys by using SAP technology to ensure that enterprise-grade apps remain secure on its own products.

The companies also hope that by providing enterprise apps to workforces on Samsung devices, developers and systems integrators will be able to create new Internet of Things (IoT) applications that work with their products and services.

Steve Lucas, president of SAP’s Platform Solutions Group, said: "Increasingly, our customers are away from the desk and require a fundamentally new way to interact with the enterprise applications to align with how they work today.

"The applications that match the current trends in mobility must work to create a seamless experience as the work modality embraces mobile devices, wearables, IoT and other alternative forms of mobile computing."

Verticals

Samsung and SAP aim to focus on four industries initially – retail, oil and gas, finance and healthcare.

In retail, they will provide store managers and employees with inventory and product availability data adapted for Samsung devices, as well as customer data using SAP Precision Marketing.

In the oil and gas industry, the SAP Work Manager and SAP Field Service mobile apps are available on Samsung Galaxy Tab Active for workers out in the field.

The two companies also plan to extend SAP software integration to Samsung wearables to create a hands-free user experience.

Healthcare innovations will focus on bringing analytics based on SAP’s cloud platform HANA to Samsung mobile devices via customised applications, while in finance the firms aim to develop mobile banking tools that give customers a secure and user-friendly experience.

The companies will also collaborate on new enterprise applications and solutions by building a Joint Innovation Center.
