Samsung releases mobile widget SDK for TouchWiz user interface

To allow developers create widgets for different Samsung phones across multiple platforms

By CBR Staff Writer

Samsung Mobile Innovator has released the mobile widget software developer kit (SDK) for its TouchWiz user interface. It allows developers to create widgets for different Samsung phones across multiple platforms, including Samsung’s propriety operating system.

The company said that through the Samsung Mobile Innovator program, developers have real-time access to Samsung’s Virtual Device Lab, where they can check out and remotely test their applications on all current Samsung phones.

The mobile widget SDK also includes a variety of SDK tools, including the TouchWiz user interface, Windows Mobile, Symbian and Java.

The widgets are expected to be included on Samsung devices and through other channels such as its Widget Gallery and Application Store. The Samsung Omnia II, which will be available with Verizon Wireless, will be its first handset to include the Widget Gallery, the company said.

Omar Khan, senior vice president of strategy and product management at Samsung Telecommunications America, said: “Samsung fully recognizes the challenges that developers face to develop and market mobile applications to consumers and businesses. The Samsung Mobile Innovator program is a global program focused on giving developers the tools and the support that they need to develop and market widgets for Samsung’s lineup of TouchWiz-based devices and applications for different Samsung phones.”
