Samsung Electronics America, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has announced that its new SyncMaster monitors have been registered as EPEATA Gold: 943BT, 943BWT, 2243BWT & 2443BWT. Operated by the Green Electronics Council, EPEAT is used by the US federal government and hundreds of other purchasing entities to identify greener products.

The company has said that with 197 Samsung products (153 monitors and 44 notebooks) registered with EPEAT, all Samsung registered products have an EPEAT rating of Silver or higher. Reportedly, its new monitors 943BT, 943BWT, 2243BWT and 2443BWT also meet at least 75% of the optional criteria, qualifying them for Gold level.

EPEAT evaluates products in relation to 51 total environmental criteria (23 required and 28 optional criteria). Once products meet the 23 required criteria, they are then ranked Bronze, Silver or Gold depending on the percentage of optional criteria they meet. All aspects are evaluated including, but not limited to, environmentally sensitive materials, packaging, product life and corporate policies.

J.H. Kim, president of information technology division at Samsung Electronics America revealed that the company plans to have all its monitors and notebooks at the Gold Rating by 2010.
