Samsung to use Intel processor in Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

Samsung is reported to have selected Intel's Clover Trail+ mobile chip.

By CBR Staff Writer

Samsung Electronics has selected an Intel processor for a new version of its Android tablets.

A source familiar with the matter told Reuters, Samsung has selected Intel’s Clover Trail+ mobile chip for at least one version of its Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

Samsung is expected introduce new ATIV tablets using Intel chips at a June 20 event in London, UK.

However, it was unclear whether Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Tab at the event planned in next month.

The Korea Times reported that Samsung’s co-CEO, Shin Jong-kyun, recently told reporters that it plans to expand its tablet business two-fold by 2013 by selling about 33 million Galaxy Tabs.

Intel’s new CEO, Brian Krzanich, has already revealed a plan to be more responsive to the fast-growing smartphone and tablet market, the areas where it lags its competitors.

The company has already reorganised the company’s key business groups and created a new devices unit.
