Samsung to launch Galaxy S IV smartphone on 14 March

The new Galaxy S model will be powered by Exynos quad-core processor and feature a higher-resolution display and camera as well as a 4.8-inch display.

Samsung is planning to launch the new Galaxy S IV smartphone on 14 March 2013 at an event in New York, marking the first US launch of the smartphone maker’s flagship Galaxy phone in three years.

The new Galaxy S model will be powered by an Exynos quad-core processor and will feature a higher-resolution display and camera as well as a 4.8-inch screen.

Samsung Electronics’ mobile division chief JK Shin was quoted by Korea’s Edaily news website as saying, "We introduced the Galaxy S III in London last year, and this time we changed the venue (to New York)… as we were bombarded with requests from US mobile carriers to unveil the Galaxy S IV in the country."

Samsung has revealed its plans after the launch of a new Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet at the ongoing Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung had lost its lead in US mobile shipments during the fourth quarter of 2012 by shipping 16.8 million phones, while its rival Apple shipped 17.7 million phones in the same quarter.

The South Korean electronics maker is hoping to widen its smartphone lead over Apple in 2013, with the launch of a broad product line-up.
