Samsung will block access to its online mobile app store for Iranian users from May 2013, as part of international sanctions against the country over its uncertain nuclear programme.

Samsung smartphone users in Iran were notified by email that the online marketplace would be out of action from the 22 May, while users were urged to update their apps prior to the cut-off date.

However, the firm is seeking to offer an alternative service, according to the Associated Press.

In addition, Samsung apologised to its users in Iran in the message and said it can no longer offer access to the Samsung Apps store in Iran over ‘legal barriers’.

Samsung offered localised services to Iranians in their native Persian language unlike Apple, Microsoft and Adobe.

According to reports, the sanctions are imposed on the country to prevent Iran from continuing with its nuclear programme and convince it to boost its cooperation with the international community.
