Samsung and Sony are reportedly planning to launch new devices by September 2013, ahead of Apple’s new iPhone and iPad.

Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and Note 3 on 4 September at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.

The latest smartwatch allows users to make phone calls, surf the web and handle emails on its small screen.

Sony’s latest Xperia handset will also be launched at the same event, according to reports.

Powered by Google’s Android 4.2 version of the Jelly Bean operating system, the new Xperia smartphone sports a 20MP Exmor RS rear camera with Sony G-lens and BIONZ image processor and a 2MP front facing camera.

Other features include a 16GB internal storage memory and a 3000mAh battery.

Samsung and Sony are trying to precede Apple in efforts to capture customers during the upcoming holiday shopping season,
