Samsung’s Galaxy S7 will feature a pressure-sensitive display, following Apple’s addition of 3D Touch to the iPhone 6S launched in September.
The device is also set to feature a high-speed charging port and may have a retina scanner.
In addition, the device will be offered alongside a curved screen version akin to the Samsung S6 Edge, according to the report in the Wall Street Journal.
Apple originally introduced what was then called Force Touch on the Apple Watch, launched in June, as well as recent models of the MacBook Pro.
It expands the range of interactions available with an app, allowing the user to vary the level of force applied to the touch-screen to generate different functions.
Huawei also introduced the Mate S earlier this year, with the capabilities to feature a form of the technology.
Ben Wood, Chief of Research at CCS Insight, said: "This is the next frontier. Where Apple goes Samsung tends to follow. It is a way of adding another layer of interaction to a flat user interface."
Wood explains that barriers exist to proliferation and use of the technology.
"The trick is making users aware that the capability exists, and to have someone preparing apps," he said.
"There are a number of apps supporting it, such as Twitter, Facebook, Evernote and Flickr. All high-profile apps support it.
"One of the challenges is how it works with third parties. The user will be less likely to use it if they find it works on some apps but not on others.
Wood explains that Samsung‘s inclusion of the technology will be "the first major implementation on an Android device."
"With the Huawei Mate S, the units that shipped didn’t have it; it was slated for a future version.
"Apple is in a very fortunate position as it controls all aspects of its user experience. Samsung will have had to work closely with Google.
Regarding the intellectual property, Wood said: "Samsung is a market leader in screen technology so will have its own internal resources it could draw on."
