Samsung has introduced a new free radio streaming service, called Milk Music, in efforts to take on similar services offered by Spotify, Pandora and Apple’s iTunes Radio.

The South Korean firm’s new service is powered by ‘Slacker’, which allows Galaxy device users to access over 200 refined genre based Internet radio stations and includes a library showing off over 13 million songs.

Samsung Telecommunications America president Gregory Lee said that Milk Music introduces a fresh approach to music.

"We’re offering consumers amazing, rich music experiences built around what matters most to them and their lifestyle," Lee said.

The new app is compatible with smartwatches Galaxy Gear and the new Tizen powered Galaxy Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, as well as cars incorporating Bluetooth devices that are compatible to smartphones powered by Android v4.3.

According to the smartphone maker, the new app also has ‘Spotlight’, which offers access to real-time curated popular songs chosen by music lovers and influencers.

Other features include a parental control feature that can disable songs with explicit lyrics by default.
