Samsung releases GALAXY S4 Active

The smartphone has protection from dust and water

Samsung Electronics has unveiled ruggedised smartphone, GALAXY S4 Active under its GALAXY series.

Samsung Electronics IT & Mobile Communications Division CEO and president JK Shin said that protective design elements of GALAXY S4 Active will thrives in an active environment and is built for a lifestyle of travel and exploration.

"The GALAXY S4 Active is the newest addition to the GALAXY series and is purposefully designed for active users who love the outdoors," Shin said.

The smartphone is claimed to have protection from dust and water with the fully sealed design that keeps dust particles out and protects against water damage for up to 30 minutes of submergence at a depth of one metre along with the water-resistant earphone jack.

GALAXY S4 Active is powered by a 1.9GHZ Quad-Core processor and runs on the Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean version and comes with 2,600mAh battery, 5-inch Full HD TFT LCD screen with 443 PPI resolution.

The device comes with Glove Touch, 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front facing camera with Aqua Mode that increases visual quality and clarity, and LED flash light to assist in low-light.

The smartphone features an internal memory of 16GB that can be expanded up to 64GB with micro SD card, 2GB RAM and supports the use of Samsung Smart Pause, Air View, Air Gesture and S Health applications.

Additional features of the device include the Samsung Hub, WatchON’s IR remote function to control TV functions, Samsung’s EPG (Electronic Program Guide) system and the ChatON messenger app.

The company has scheduled to launch the phones on 20 June starting with London.
