Samsung patents transparent dual-side display

It is also working on metal mesh touchscreen panels.

By CBR Staff Writer

Samsung has patented a transparent display that features touch controls on the front as well as on the back.

Each screen can be used individually or simultaneously and enables users to manage actions, move icons, control video playback and more, according to reports from Patent Bolt.

The filing also stresses that the South Korean firm is serious about implementing transparent displays and is even anticipated to be trialling some prototypes, another report from Sam Mobile revealed.

In addition to the transparent display, Samsung is developing metal mesh touchscreen panels, which are currently being trialled until the end of the year.

The metal mesh panels would let the South Korean firm install stylus recognition without requiring a dedicated digitiser chip with the display panel, leading to reduced costs, while adding stylus support to more tablets.

Samsung is considering launching its new Galaxy S5 smartphone in February next year, which would come in metal and plastic versions.
