Samsung is reportedly close to signing a deal with two US agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Navy for supplying its Galaxy devices.
The deal would help the South Korean smartphone maker supply its flagship phones to more government agencies, a segment which is currently dominated by Canadian smartphone firm BlackBerry.
The FBI currently deploys mostly BlackBerry devices for its 35,000 employees, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Reports also reveal that the Samsung devices for the FBI and Navy would be preloaded with the firm’s KNOX security offering, adding a layer of security to the standard Android OS.
Samsung’s move comes after the US Department of Defense cleared Samsung and BlackBerry devices, that are powered by BB10 operating system for deployment on its networks, to enable military access the latest communications technology.
With about 600,000 existing users of smartphones, computer tablets and other mobile devices, US Department of Defense has 470,000 BlackBerry users, 41,000 Apple users and 8,700 using Google’s Android devices.
Samsung has been trying hard to win over government agencies and corporate clients that its Android powered Galaxy devices could meet their stringent security requirements.
