Samsung Electronics has introduced its new cloud-based monitor ‘NC220’ which uses Cisco System’s Universal Power Over Ethernet (UPoE) technology.

The company displayed the monitor at the Cisco Live held last week in Las Vegas.

Devices running on Cisco’s UPoE technology can be powered with a 60-watt Power over Ethernet standard.

Samsung’s NC220 is a "zero-client display" and a virtual desktop client that runs on UPoE.

The monitor does not need a CPU, memory or HDD and it starts working like a computer once it is connected to the Ethernet, through which it gets both power and data simultaneously.

Moreover, the company said that the UPoE technology cuts power usage.

The monitor has LED backlight technology.

Samsung Electronics Display Sales & Marketing senior vice-president Jeong-Hwan Kim said, "Samsung and Cisco are leading the way in transforming enterprise workspaces."

"Now every workstation can leverage the power and speed of the company’s centralised server, while reducing energy costs and creating a more beautiful, less cluttered environment," Jeong-Hwan Kim added.
