UK-based Salford Software has secured a three year contract worth £147,000 with the Swansea University to provide a an identity management solution (IDM).

Under the deal, the company will provide the IDM solution to manage the identities of Swansea’s 4500 staff accounts and 13,500 student accounts in its 14 critical IT systems.

The IDM will provide a single identity for staff and students across the college and departmental IT systems, provisioning and de-provisioning access to each system based on the identity recorded earlier with student records and HR system.

Swansea University IT director, Tony Ollier, said that the Salford Software will be responsible for managing, monitoring and maintaining the IDM system whilst providing the university with incident and problem resolution and management through a help desk.

"The contract will give us the ability to free up valuable internal resources to work on other critical projects whilst Salford Softwares manages our IDM service and crucially provides cover at all times," Ollier added.

Additionally, the application along with the technology provider’s Affiliate Record Management System (ARMS) will support the university to manage the temporary or part time staff and students.

Salford Software CTO, Tom Eggleston, said: "The churn rate of both students and staff in an organisation that has over 18,000 users is immense and our managed services provides them with the experts ‘on tap’ without the cost of hiring and maintaining the high level of skills internally which are required to do the same job. It also ensures continuity of service regardless of staff or student changes within the institution."
