Security firm Safend has rounded out its endpoint data protection portfolio with the release of two new products: Inspector and Discoverer.
Safend Inspector is a content inspection and filtering platform that is said to safeguard content flowing through email, instant messenger, external storage and printers while Discoverer is a search tool that enables admins to locate all sensitive data held within an organisation.
The firm says that the release of Inspector completes its Data Protection Suite by adding outbound data protection to the existing security features like control of physical ports and devices via Safend Protector and hard disk protection through Safend Encryptor.
“Inspector and Discoverer give companies full coverage and also make sure that you remain covered by scanning your entire organisation to make sure that no one is taking sensitive data out unnecessarily,” Edy Almer, VP product manager of Safend told CBR.
Safend says that its Inspector product can enforce a data-centric security policy across multiple channels where there is the potential for data to be transferred out of the enterprise. These channels include email, web (HTTP, HTTPS), FTP, external storage devices, CD/DVD burners, PDA devices, file repositories, print screen, local printers and network printers.
The product can by default stop any process where sensitive data is transferred out of the organisation but Almer said that usually companies choose to alert the end user that they may be breaching security policy. This means that users ultimately take greater care over what information they transfer, Almer said.
“You can’t do anything to change people through technology,” Almer told CBR, “except make them understand that they are being watched and if they are doing something they shouldn’t they’ll be caught.”
Safend Discoverer is an enterprise search tool that can help an organisation to keep track of its sensitive data. This is particularly useful for regulatory and compliance reasons, Almer said. “Discoverer can crawl your entire organisation and produce an entire risk map, telling you where you have sensitive data and what you can do to remediate,” Almer said. “It reduces risk significantly.”
Both products are available through the Safend Data Protection Suite.
