RIM delays new QNX phone launch

The company reported fall in its profits on Thursday for its third quarter

Canada-based Research In Motion has delayed the launch of its BlackBerrys with the new QNX operating system until late next year.

The company, which reported fall in its profits on Thursday for its third quarter, said its two chiefs have taken a pay cut to a dollar each per year.

RIM co-chief Jim Balsillie said that the last few quarters had been some of the most trying in the recent history of this company
"We recognize our shareholders may feel we’ve fallen short," Balsillie added.

Service outage of BlackBerry in the month of October has cost the company dearly in its third quarter.

Though international sales rose to 61% of total revenue in the third quarter from 56% in the previous quarter, primarily driven by markets in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and South Africa, analysts said lower-cost handsets affected their bottom lines.

BlackBerry sales have also been affected due to the competition from iPhone and Android-powered devices.
