Open source applications provider Red Hat has enhanced its collaboration with the enterprise software firm, SAP on virtualisation projects.

The two companies work together to provide customers with easier deployments of SAP applications on physical Red Hat servers, in virtualised environments or in the cloud.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization offers a virtualisation management application for server and desktop virtualisation.

The company had released its Enterprise Virtualization version 3.0 in January 2012 which is an open source virtualisation platform,

The version 3.0 is now certified for running SAP business applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the company said.

Customers can now support workloads and users as well as scale the compatibility between Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and the SAP ecosystem, all based on open source virtualisation technology.

In two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmarks, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and its Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor running the SAP ERP 6.0 application achieved increased performance results.

The company has achieved these results using Red Hat Enterprise Linux on KVM with IBM System x processors1 and with Cisco UCS systems.

Red Hat Products and Technologies president Paul Cormier said Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is providing an open virtualisation alternative and the latest technology delivered through the 3.0 platform provides enhanced performance, scalability, security, manageability and cost benefits.

"With Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization available for production for use with SAP solutions, we’re now able to offer these benefits to joint Red Hat and SAP customers worldwid," Cormier said.
