Red Hat launches lifecycle management tool Satellite 5.7

Release improves security, automation and user interface.

By Jimmy Nicholls

The software vendor Red Hat has launched an upgrade to Satellite 5, its lifecycle management tool, continuing support for the software despite the release of version 6 in September.

Version 5.7 will add various security enhancements, improved automation and an updated user interface to the existing package.

Among the security upgrades, Red Hat has simplified integration of identity management on the service, and enabled Satellite to run on systems using its Enterprise Linux operating system in combination with FIPS 140-2, a US cybersecurity standard.

Admins upgrading to 5.7 will also be able to start, stop and reboot hardware with the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) and schedule client system tasks.

The update also added support for PowerLE client systems and read-only APIs that allows user to explore infrastructure safely, while the speed of updates and deployment provisioning has also been improved.
