The open source firm Red Hat has confirmed it will buy the mobile app developers FeedHenry for €63.5m as it seeks to strengthen its position in the smartphone enterprise software market.

Included in the deal is FeedHenry’s app development and integration tools, and its platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offerings, which cover Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Blackberry.

Craig Muzilla, a senior VP at Red Hat, said: "As mobile devices have penetrated into every aspect of enterprise computing, enterprise software customers are looking for easier and more efficient ways for their developers to build mobile applications that extend and enhance traditional enterprise applications.

"FeedHenry will help us enable customers to take advantage of the capabilities of mobile with the security, scalability, and reliability of Red Hat enterprise software."

The smaller company’s platform supports several toolkits including native SDKs, hybrid Apache Cordova, HTML5 and Titanium, as well as frameworks like Xamarin and Sencha Touch.

Cathal McGloin, chief executive officer at FeedHenry, said the firm was "excited" about the deal, which will enable the Irish company to reach a wider market than before.
