Rackspace, a provider of cloud computing services, is offering Akamai‘s web acceleration and cloud optimisation services as part of its dedicated and cloud hosting portfolio, under a new strategic alliance.
Under the agreement, Rackspace will integrate key features from Akamai CNAMEs, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and CDN delivery for Cloud Files into its service to provide scalable online storage for files and media.
The alliance is expected to create a one-stop shop for hosting, cloud, and acceleration services for web content and applications.
The integration of Akamai’s services into the Rackspace product portfolio addresses four common challenges such as latency, availability, scalability and security for moving organisations businesses into cloud or into hosted environments.
Akamai application and site acceleration vice president Willie Tejada said the strategic relationship for Akamai and Rackspace is aimed at helping their enterprise customers realise the full potential of cloud services from the data centre to the end-user.
"By combining two offerings for application hosting and cloud acceleration, Rackspace customers can gain improved performance, security and reliability for their Web-based applications," Tejada said.
