Quest Software Inc, best known for its Windows applications and database management software, has launched an improved administration tool for the SharePoint browser-based collaboration and document-management platform.
Addition of permissions management features will allow systems administrators to search for and modify security on SharePoint 2007 servers. They could choose to change the way they handle group membership and permission levels or control the process of cloning permissions from one user to another.
The vendor said that the £3,700 Quest Site Administrator for SharePoint product gives visibility into all SharePoint servers, and can be set up to run out 30 different operational reports on availability, security and compliance.
Security policies can be managed by controlling all access and permissions to business information held in the SharePoint environment, the company said.
The product also helps organisations meet compliance obligations by providing them with a consolidated report of log data on activities occurring across their entire SharePoint collaboration network.
Aliso Viejo, California-based Quest has just confirmed that it would acquire the technology assets of US-based storage resource management startup MonoSphere Inc, and its Storage Horizon storage capacity management software for an undisclosed sum.
More deals could be in the pipeline. According to reports circulating in India, the company is said to be considering paying anywhere between $50 and $200 million for another product company.
