Data management provider Quantum has released updated metadata controller appliances designed to help users better cope with larger volumes of data.
The StorNext5 appliances deliver ten times greater performance and five times greater scalability of previous StorNext versions, providing support for IP, NAS, SAN and cloud-based networks.
Its users don’t need to know where the files are located as they see virtual file store.
Quantum, which specialises in storage solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, said the appliances would help users address complex digital workflows.
Other features include InfiniBand and SSD support to enable the use of low latency applications as well as application connectivity for IP (NAS) and HTTP/REST.
Terri McClure, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, said: "It promises to address the challenges found in today’s complex workflows where data environments are not only growing in volume, but are also comprised of mixed file sizes, performance requirements and network topologies.
"This release is fully compatible with the last, companies tackling unstructured data challenges in various markets will be able to immediately take advantage of the benefits from the re-architected platform."
StorNext is popular in the media and entertainment process world where files can be large and segments from stored videos can be used for different purposes.
