Qualcomm subsidiary buys iSkoot Technologies

Strengthen ability to offer integrated services that optimise network usage

By CBR Staff Writer

Qualcomm Innovation Center, (QuIC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, has acquired iSkoot Technologies, a newly-formed firm that has recently received all of the assets of iSkoot, a San Francisco-based firm that provides services at the intersection of mobile and the internet.

iSkoot works with device manufacturers and US mobile operators to bring social networks and new internet services to mobile handsets in an intelligent manner that reduces data bandwidth usage on the network.

QuIC said that iSkoot will now be its subsidiary and will focus on enabling and optimising open source software with Qualcomm technologies.

It will focus on three areas: continued support of its current customers; integrating its offerings with Qualcomm’s products; and developing open source data management contributions for mobile devices.

QuIC president Rob Chandhok said the company’s acquisition of iSkoot provides it with a push data services platform, a social network aggregation offering and voice 2.0 services that strengthens its ability to continue providing efficient mobile solutions for operators and device makers.
