Poundland shops for data protection

Compliance is also on the list

By Steve Evans

Cut-price retailer Poundland is hoping to protect business critical data stored on laptops and ensure compliance with a suite of software from Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) provider Iron Mountain Digital.

It is hoped the implementation of Connected Backup for PC and DataDefense will stop Poundland’s corporate information from falling into the wrong hands. The platform should also ensure that any data lost can be recovered.

The company was aware of the vulnerability of data should a remote device be lost, stolen or the hard drive become corrupt and wanted a offering that would ensure that laptop data could be secured and backed-up, or wiped should a device be lost or stolen.

Mo Rahman, IT services manager at Poundland, said: “We were keen to safeguard our data with one supplier but it was difficult to find a vendor offering all the software required. Iron Mountain Digital proved the easiest and most cost effective option for us. The company was able to provide the two solutions we needed, within our budget, leaving us assured that our corporate data is completely secure.”

Poundland chose to implement Iron Mountain Digital’s PC Data Protection Suite, which includes the Connected Backup for PC and DataDefense platforms.

It was initially test on half the company’s laptops, and then deployed across the one hundred remote devices used by senior management and area managers at Poundland. The retailer also plans to extend the service to its remote devices in Hong Kong early this year.

Richard Ellis, sales manager UK and Ireland at Iron Mountain Digital, said: “Data loss stories in the media and warnings from the ICO have seen the protection of company information jump up the corporate agenda. By backing up and encrypting sensitive company information, Poundland now has total confidence in deploying laptops across the network.”
