The creator of popular mobile game ‘Flappy Bird’ has axed the app from the Apple’s App Store and Google Play, and stopped all future downloads, claiming that the ‘game had ruined’ his life.
Soaring to the top of iPhone and Android app downloads, the game has been downloaded about 50 million times, and attracted over half a million reviews in the iOS App Store.
The Hanoi-based game developer Nguyen Ha Dong, who apologised to Flappy Bird players, is claimed to have used ‘tricks’ to boost downloads.
Dong tweeted: "I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down."
"It is not anything related to legal issues," Dong added.
"I cannot take this anymore."
However, smartphone and tablet users who have already installed the gaming app can play the game.
Originally intended for the iPhone in May, the app was not available for free until mid-January, in the wake of surge in popularity that started in early December 2013.
Integrating with Apple’s Game Center and Google’s Play Games, the app allows players to share scores with other players, while also enabling sharing scores on social networks.
