PKWARE, a provider of data-centric security and compression software, has introduced PKZIP and SecureZIP products for Linux on the System z operating platform.

The company said that the PKZIP for Linux on System z provides file management and data compression, which results in efficient data exchange through reduced transmission times and storage requirements.

In addition, the PKZIP family of products are interoperable so that data zipped and compressed on one platform can be unzipped and extracted on any other supported computing platforms.

The SecureZIP for Linux on System z provides data security to protect privacy, wherever the data resides.

The SecureZIP integrates into new and existing Linux workflows to add encryption for protection against data breaches, data loss, or theft.

In addition, it includes capabilities of PKZIP and is interoperable so that data encrypted on one platform can be decrypted and used on other supported operating systems, providing users data protection across major enterprise computing platforms.

PKWARE chief technology officer Joe Sturonas said that the company the products allow their customers to improve overall data centre operations by reducing complexity and data management costs.
