Apple’s manufacturing partner Pegatron is reportedly looking to open a new factory in China to build to the iPhone 6 during the second quarter of 2014.
According to the Commercial Times, Apple awarded a contract to the Chinese firm to build about half of its iPhone 6 orders in early January.
Pegatron has already been tasked with assembling the iPad mini and iPhone 5c, while Apple’s major supplier, Foxconn, was responsible for manufacturing several of the iPhone 5S devices.
The upcoming 4.7-in iPhone 6 would incorporate A8 chips from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, and feature Sony’s sensors for the second camera on the front of the phone, which currently features components from US suppliers.
The upcoming device, which is competing with larger-screened counterparts, will feature a sapphire crystal screen from GT Advanced as well as drop and scratch resistant technology.
Quantum dot technology would also significantly improve screen image quality.
