Europe’s event ticket marketplace, Seatwave has selected online IT hosting provider PEER 1 Hosting to manage extreme surges in web traffic, 50 times more than the normal site traffic, leading to multi-million page impressions on a day, with peak traffic hitting the site within 15 seconds of tickets going on sale.

PEER 1 Hosting has also provisioned a virtualised application across two data centres that can handle the surges.

The online IT hosting provider is planning to provision a supplemental cloud hosting environment from Zunicore, to extend Seatwave’s ability to serve its customers. Zunicore is PEER 1 Hosting’s cloud hosting division.

The new application is designed to handle massive traffic and purchasing surges, providing enhanced page uploads, checkout and 100% uptime, claims the company.

The custom application also covers two active locations, each of which takes advantage of technology including the EMC Clariion Storage Area Network, VMware Clusters, Microsoft SQL database clusters, redundant Juniper firewalls and load balancing built to the customers’ specification.

Both locations are centred on PEER 1 Hosting’s FastFiber Network, ensuring that data transferred between the two locations never goes outside of the PEER 1 Hosting backbone, supporting uptime and meaning that bandwidth is not compromised.
