Kickstarter-backed Pebble ‘smartwatch’ is expected to hit the store from 07 July 2013 through Best Buy, following launch delays in September 2012 and January 2013.
Capable of displaying and interacting with apps on Android and iPhone smartphones, the gadget has been developed with $10m crowdsourced funding.
The new smartwatch features a 1.26in black and white 144 x 168-pixel ePaper display, four control buttons, a vibrating motor, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, magnetometer and ambient light sensor, as well as a three-axis accelerometer to run the device’s backlight.
The device is also capable of receiving calls, emails and message notifications, while managing music from Spotify, iTunes and Pandora on iOS and Android devices via Bluetooth.
Pebble smartwatch can also be synced with the user’s smartphone to view text messages, Facebook statuses and email notifications.
The watch also incorporates additional apps that enable users to expand its capabilities, while a software development kit (SDK) is also offered for application developers.
