Pantech has unveiled a new 5.9-inch smartphone which features a screen capable of supporting 1080p high-definition (HD) display and video at full resolution.
The smartphone, known as Vega No 6, runs Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core processor.
Vega No 6 features 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a microSD slot and a 3,150 mAh battery.
The company said the new handset goes on sale in February in South Korea through all three domestic mobile carriers.
Pantech vice president Lee Jun-woo said: "The term ‘Vega’ means the brightest star in the sky (SKY-model products)."
"In that sense, I am sure ‘VEGA NO6 Full HD’ will break new ground in the pleasure of viewing (images)," Jun-woo said.
Last year a report from Strategy Analytics found that global LTE smartphone shipments are expected to reach 275 million units this year, compared to 90.9 million units in 2012.

The report said companies such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Nokia, HTC, Motorola, BlackBerry, Huawei, ZTE and Pantech will lead the growth in countries like the US, UK, Japan, China and South Korea.
