According to the company, its managed customer premises equipment (CPE) firewall delivers an enhanced security solution while eliminating the need for customers to purchase and maintain the multiple appliances, servers, and software needed for an in-house solution.

Managed CPE firewall is claimed to provide unified threat management through a managed platform that includes: firewall, anti-Virus and intrusion protection service. As part of the basic service, subscribers will receive security change management, real-time security-patch updates, detailed and summary security reporting, hardware repair, and 24X7 service and support.

Optional add-on services include: gateway anti-virus or managed intrusion prevention, which detects and blocks unwanted or malicious network activity in real-time; uniform resource locator filtering; virtual private network management; and DMZ (demilitarized zone) management to protect facilities that operate between the internet and internal networks.

John Chapman, vice president for strategy and solutions at Paetec, said: Our customers tell us that Internet security is extremely complex and time-consuming, and it diverts attention from other business-critical IT requirements. This solution provides 24X7 turnkey protection and support against attacks and viruses, and it can be configured to restrict internal access to non-productive web sites.
