Oracle has released its Virtual Desktop Client App for iPad on the Apple’s App Store.

The company said that the new app would allow users secure access to virtual desktops managed by Oracle’s Sun Ray Software and Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.

This app allows iPad users support through Oracle desktop virtualisation, bringing full "session mobility", said the company.

The new app is part of Oracle’s desktop-to-datacenter virtualisation portfolio and supports a broad range of enterprise applications, including network-intensive applications and those requiring full desktop browsers.

The app’s fast and responsive interface allows multi-tasking and seamless switching between other iOS apps, said Oracle.

It also provides a virtual keyboard support, including CTRL, ALT, ESC, Insert, Delete, Tab, Home, End, Function, Paging, and cursor keys.

For security, the app has the support of built-in VPN functionality of iOS and protection of user sessions even over public Wi-Fi connections, said Oracle.

Oracle Linux and Virtualization Engineering senior vice-president Wim Coekaerts said the introduction of Oracle Virtual Desktop Client App for iPad offers customers innovative ways to access a broad range of virtual desktop environments and enterprise applications.

Coekaerts added, "When used in conjunction with Oracle’s Sun Ray Software and Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, customers benefit from enhanced security, centralised administration, lower cost, and better access to their corporate data from iPad."
