Oracle has introduced its new SPARC T4 server line, which the company claims, delivers the biggest generational performance increase in the history of Oracle’s SPARC processors.
The company claimed its end-to-end SPARC T4-4-based offering is 2.4x faster than an all-IBM one, setting a world record in enterprise Java application environments, and has a 20% performance advantage per socket across the entire configuration.
The company said that Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers with Oracle Solaris are designed for every tier in the enterprise. Oracle’s new SPARC systems enable customers to consolidate multiple application tiers onto a single server, reducing system complexity and improving utilization, said the company.
Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers are designed to provide both Oracle and third- party applications with high performance, security, availability and scalability, and are the foundation for Oracle’s SPARC SuperCluster T4-4, also announced together.
Oracle Systems executive vice-president John Fowler said Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers offer the high performance and flexible application support required by next generation data centers.
"Our customers are seeing up to 5x performance improvements across a wide range of Oracle and third-party applications and have already started placing orders to replace outdated systems from our competitors," Fowler added.
The company claimed that SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 outclasses HP and IBM, delivering twice the performance of IBM POWER7-based systems and HP Superdome 2 systems at half the cost running database and enterprise applications.
The SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 is designed to support all current Oracle Solaris applications and supports the latest release of Oracle Solaris, as well as the upcoming release of Oracle Solaris 11, said Oracle.
It added, the SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 delivers extreme performance and scalability, while also offering flexible, built-in virtualisation with Oracle Solaris Zones and Oracle VM Server .
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said the SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 is "a really fast computer. "
"It combines the latest in Extreme Parallelism and the latest in Extreme Compression to provide a 100 percent upwardly compatible migration path for existing SPARC customers. This one box moves data two times faster than IBM’s fastest computer at eight times better price/performance. This is a really fast computer," Ellison said.
