Oracle has expanded its cloud portfolio with the launch of new services including Oracle Database Backup Service and Oracle Storage Cloud Service.

The new services are intended to help organisations accelerate adoption of hybrid cloud applications, which would integrate public cloud systems with on-premises and private cloud environments.

New services are part of Oracle’s plan to offer better cloud portfolio to customers along with the flexibility to shift critical applications and data either from on-premises to the cloud or vice-versa.

Oracle Product Development SVP Chris Pinkham said to remain competitive in a highly connected business environment, organisations are adopting and building new cloud-based applications.

"To help customers achieve these goals, Oracle has further expanded its comprehensive set of enterprise-grade infrastructure cloud services," Pinkham said.

"The new services are based on open standards, integrated to work together seamlessly, and designed to support full portability between on-premises and cloud environments."

Oracle Database Backup Service, which is part of the Oracle Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) portfolio, offers low-cost Oracle Database cloud backup application that can be used in integration with multi-tier database backup and recovery strategies.

Oracle Database Backup Service, with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN), allows the use of same RMAN commands for backup and recovery functions between on-premises Oracle Databases and the Oracle Cloud, while offering better performance and client-side encryption, said the company.
