Oracle has introduced VM VirtualBox 4.0, an open source, cross-platform virtualisation software, that enables desktop or laptop computers to run multiple guest operating systems (OS) simultaneously.
The offering supports an array of host OS, including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux (including Oracle Linux), and Solaris.
The company said that the new VM VirtualBox 4.0 provides enhanced capacity and throughput to handle greater workloads, enhanced virtual appliance capabilities, and significant usability improvements.
The new offering features: new open architecture; enhanced usability; increased capacity and throughput; powerful virtual appliance sharing capabilities; and support for latest virtual hardware.
Oracle linux and virtualisation engineering senior vice president Wim Coekaerts said VM VirtualBox 4.0 is the third major product release in over a year, and adds to the many new product releases across the company virtualisation product line.
"With an improved user interface and added virtual hardware support, customers will find Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.0 provides a richer user experience," Coekaerts said.
