Opera Software has released a test version of its new web browser for mobile phones Mini 5, which it claims to be the easiest web browser on phones.

According to Opera, the new version gives an advanced look and feel with a new sleek design; and tabbed browsing, allows users to browse several sites simultaneously. It also provides touchscreen or keypad browsing that offers optimal browsing for both touchscreen and keypad-based phones.

The new version, which runs on mobile phones that support Java, also comes with a password manager that securely saves all passwords for e-mail, social-networking sites and online banking. The speed dial feature allows users to pre-select internet favourites up on loading the browser.

Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software, said: “In our own research, we have learned that the number-one reason people use Opera Mini is because it is easy – easy to use the web you know. The idea of navigating the vastness of the web from such a small screen can be a daunting leap, which is why we have long committed to make the browsing experience you are familiar with from your PC, easy to do on your mobile phone.

“With new, sleek navigation buttons, tabbed browsing and Speed Dial bookmarks, you are never more than a click away from where you want to go on the web.”

The company claims that, Opera Mini has been chosen as the mobile-browser platform of choice by more operators worldwide than any other mobile browser. It is used by more than 30 million people to browse more than 12 billion web pages each month.

The company offers a special version of the Opera Mini 5 beta for BlackBerry. Designed specifically for BlackBerry devices, Opera Mini 5 works with BlackBerry, including opening links and copy-and-paste functions.
