OpenSAF has unveiled Release 4.0 of its high availability (HA) middleware platform, which implements all major functions of the Service Availability Forum Application Interface Specification and consists enhancements to improve scalability, hardware and software management.

OpenSAF said that the new offering delivers low-cost, standards-based integration for SOA environments where extreme performance and scalability are key requirements.

The company said that the new enhancements include, implementation of the SA Forum’s new Platform Layer Management (PLM) service; and logging, tracing and debugging enhancements.

The company claims that users will have complete access to HA ecosystem, which includes commercial OpenSAF providers, hardware vendors supporting OpenSAF, and software vendors that integrate support for OpenSAF in their applications.

In addition, OpenSAF adopters will have the flexibility of choosing from multiple suppliers offering the same core, standards-based implementation, the company said.

Monica Hatlen, president of the OpenSAF foundation, said: "Release 4.0 delivers a cost-effective, standards-based way to create highly available and reliable networks, and its new management features take a big step toward solving larger problems, including network saturation from increased smartphone use."
