NVIDIA has announced its deployment of a trial platform that can deliver graphics acceleration over the cloud.

The GRID technology is not commercially available in the channel yet, but NVIDIA are offering registered users 24 hours for the test drive to prove that they can deliver a better performance than their competition.

NVIDIA said: "In addition to using the pre-installed applications users can install and evaluate their own applications. Currently, the GRID Test Drive is available on a Windows Client. A version for Mac OS and Linux will be available soon."

With the technology, users who need increased graphics power such as engineers and designers can use demanding applications through the cloud "anywhere on any device with the same quality and performance they would have on a professional workstation" according to NVIDIA.

Andrew Cresci, GM Cloud and Virtualisation Solutions, NVIDIA, said: "NVIDIA GRID is experiencing strong customer adoption and engagement among OEM and ISV partners including HP, Dell, Citrix, VMware and Microsoft, who continue to add increasing support for virtual GPUs in new product releases."

"IT professionals know that virtualised graphics are key to VDI’s success and increased implementation moving forward. Now they can easily experience NVIDIA GRID’s performance and reliability via the first ever online trial of its kind."
