Nitobi PhoneGap mobile app now in BlackBerry 6

Enables Web developers to design and build 'write once, run anywhere' mobile apps

By CBR Staff Writer

Nitobi has extended its open source cross-platform mobile application development tool PhoneGap to support BlackBerry 6.

The PhoneGap framework enables web developers familiar with HTML, CSS and JavaScript to write a mobile application once and deploy it across multiple platforms including the BlackBerry platform, the company said.

PhoneGap application takes advantage of core device features, which include contacts, camera, GPS and accelerometer.

Nitobi CEO Andre Charland said that PhoneGap is devoted to open standards and providing mobile and Web developers with a way to design and build ‘write once, run anywhere’ mobile apps that are appealing, fun and useful.

"The BlackBerry platform and support for BlackBerry 6 represents a real opportunity for our growing developer community," Charland said.
