Arbor Networks said Nextgen Networks, owner and operator of one of Australia’s fiber networks, has joined Arbor’s Cloud Signaling Coalition.

The Cloud Signaling Coalition (CSC) is a partnership between service providers, datacentre operators and enterprises aiming to provide their network infrastructure and speed time-to-mitigation for distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.

Built on Arbor’s Peakflow platform, Nextgen’s Internet DDoS Protection service delivers integrated attack detection and mitigation to protect networks from availability threats.

Nextgen managing director Phil Sykes said the company sees Arbor’s Cloud Signaling Coalition as an important tool that will further reduce time-to-mitigation for dynamic threats facing customer networks.

"We see Arbor Networks as continuing to provide important leadership in DDoS protection," added Sykes.

Upon identifying a suspected DDoS attack in the Nextgen Internet network, the service provides alarms to the Nextgen service management centre (SMC), which calls the customer to verify the authenticity of the attack.

After customer consent, Nextgen stated it also initiates action against the attack by blocking the ‘attack’ traffic that could likely congest and potentially disable the customer site or service.

Arbor Networks’ 450 customers include the vast majority of the world’s ISPs and many of the largest enterprise networks in use today.
