Netgear unveils ProSecure UTM5 for small businesses

Offers defenses including firewall, SSL and IPSec VPN, URL filtering, network antivirus and antispam

By CBR Staff Writer

Netgear has unveiled ProSecure UTM5, a differentiated gateway security appliance that extends unified threat management (UTM) technology to any small business, home networks for telecommuters and small branch offices around five users in size.

According to Netgear, the UTM5 enables small companies to protect themselves using a an array of defenses including firewall, SSL and IPSec VPN, URL filtering, network antivirus and antispam but in a very small form factor and with a corresponding price point.

In addition, IT departments can also use the UTM5 to protect the home networks of telecommuters, as these remote employees often share connections with other endpoints that may not be as secure as a corporate laptop.

The ProSecure UTM5 is an extension of the ProSecure UTM10 and UTM25 UTM series. It leverages security technologies from security partners Sophos, Mailshell and Commtouch and the company’s stream scanning technology to deliver security at a price point that maps to small business budgets, the company said.

Jason Leung, senior product line manager for SMB security at Netgear, said: “ProSecure is bringing our award-winning UTM technology – technology that has been proven to stop more threats than the competition – down to an acceptable price point and easy-to-use format for these entities.”

The ProSecure UTM5 is available through resellers and partners such as CDW and VirtualGraffiti.com for an estimated price starting at $275, with the option of bundling one-year subscriptions for web security, email security, support and maintenance to bring the total to $399.
