Netflix aims to lure more users with new pay-per-user service

The online streaming service is trialling a $6.99 US monthly plan and a $9.99-a-month plan.

Netflix is trialling a new pay-per-user service for streaming video, as part of its efforts to lure more consumers.

The latest programme involved trialling a $6.99 US monthly plan that lets only one video stream to be viewed at once, and a $9.99-a-month plan that enables viewing three streams at once, either on a TV, tablet or computer.

The online streaming firm said it had been only testing these options for some of its new subscribers.

In addition, Netflix is also offering an upgraded-account version for $11.99, which allows consumers to watch across four screens.

Currently, subscribers of the streaming service pay a monthly fee of $7.99 for a standard service which lets them to watch several shows or movies on two screens at once.

Though plans to move away from DVD-by-mail subscription business are afoot to focus on delivering video over the Internet, the company is still offering a plan starting at $7.99 a month.
