Telefonica to deploy NEC’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure offering

Build and manage cloud computing services for businesses in Spain

By CBR Staff Writer

NEC has signed an agreement with Telefonica to provide cloud computing technology for enabling the latter’s business customers access virtualised remote desktop and office suite apps via any device, from smartphones to PCs.

As per the agreement, Telefonica will deploy NEC’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) offering, to build and manage cloud computing services for large and small- to medium-sized businesses in Spain.

NEC said that its virtual desktop offering enables Telefonica to offer a virtual PC service that provides benefits including desktop access anytime; access to new business apps; cost savings against the management and maintenance associated with standard desktops and laptops; and security against hardware theft or damage

In addition, both NEC and Telefonica will conduct a joint feasibility study examining IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and potential market opportunities in Spain for Telefonica.
