Mozilla has joined hands with Hon Hai, the parent company of Foxconn, to develop a mobile device that runs Firefox operating system (OS).

According to the reports, the new device is expected to be a tablet unveiled on June 3, 2013.

According to a report from Wall Street Journal, the company is looking to aggressively add new clients as it seeks to diversify away from contract manufacturing.

Spain-based company Geeksphone had started sales of the two Mozilla smartphones in April that are used by the developers who want to build apps for Firefox OS.

Previously, Mozilla signed up deals with 18 wireless service providers including Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica along with manufacturers including LG, ZTE, Huawei and TCL to produce its OS based devices.

The new OS, based on open web standards, is scheduled for launch in July this year and is said to require much lower hardware specification compared to the existing smartphones.
