Motorola has released its new cable headend solution for the European market. The new solution is expected to meet growing consumer appetite for high definition (HD) content by optimising cable networks to deploy cost-effective distribution of HD content.

The communications solutions company said that the system will simplify the deployment of HD channels in the cable network, especially as cable operators begin or expand their HD services with applications like video on demand, network digital video recorders or time-shifted TV.

The platform supports the DVB SimulCrypt Conditional Access standard and offers full integration with the DataMiner, Skyline’s multi-vendor network management platform.

The new solution also comprises APEX1000, new CAP1000 2.0 and REM1000 features.

Bob Wilson, vice president and general manager of Networked Video Solutions at Motorola, said: Combining the benefits of our CherryPicker technology and its new MPEG-4 rate shaping capability with the release of our SimulCrypt approved products means we have developed an integrated solution for our European cable operator customers that enables them to easily and efficiently introduce and expand their HD services.
