Google’s Motorola Mobility has settled the patent infringement lawsuit related to digital-video recording technology (DVR) with digital video recording firm TiVo.
The move comes prior to a patent trial scheduled to start in a Texas court the following week.
The agreement, which marks another end to TiVo’s continuing patent proceedings with its larger rivals, eliminates one of the last proposals in licensing TiVo’s technology.
TiVo sued Motorola over patents related to technology covering a digital video recording and playback device and processes for more efficient playing recorded video.
In addition, TiVo has been suing pay TV firms accusing them of using its patented technology in DVRs and pocketed over $1bn in patent royalties from Dish Network, AT&T and Verizon Communications.
In October 2012, TiVo filed a lawsuit claiming it may be entitled to "billions of dollars" from Motorola Mobility as per the number of television set-top boxes for Time Warner Cable, while the second case, which involves boxes manufactured for Time Warner Cable by Cisco, is scheduled for trial in 2014.
