The site will initially focus on online sales of food, personal care and beauty products, housewares and leisure goods. The company hopes that eventually the site will be expanded to cover Monoprix’s complete range of products.

The deal will cover complete deployment and operation of the eCommerce site and aims to give shoppers a safe, fast and convenient alternative to shopping on the high street.

The service will initially be available to customers in the Paris region before being rolled out to the Île-de-France administrative department (the region surrounding Paris) by the end of 2008. Monoprix expects the service to be expanded to cover all of France by the first quarter of 2009.

“Shopping on the Internet should be a pleasant, fulfilling experience. We chose Atos Worldline for their recognised expertise in designing and operating eCommerce sites, particularly for online food retailers. They have demonstrated a real commitment to helping us drive the success of this strategic initiative for our banner,” said Julien Zakoian, Director of the monoprix.com e-tailing site.
