There will be over 750 million mobile ticketing users by 2015, according to the latest analysis from Juniper Research.

The research firm predicts more than three-fold rise in mobile ticketing users. At present, 230 million or one in 20 mobile users worldwide use the facility.

Juniper predicts that apart from, SMSes, bar codes, mobile Web, smartphone apps, tickets will be delivered by contactless payments using the near-field communications (NFC) technology as well. The key years of growth will be 2011-2013, says the report.

Mobile ticketing will be available in transport, sport, travel, entertainment and events sectors, according to the report.

Report author Howard Wilcox said the research has demonstrated that mobile ticketing will change the way that many people buy and obtain their regular, printed, everyday tickets.

Wilcox said, "We foresee strong acceptance driven not only by airlines but also cinemas and some sports events: bar coded boarding passes are a clear case in point."
