Missile Command Easter Egg

Youtube mini-game latest in entertaining online easter eggs.

By Ben Sullivan

Yet another Youtube mini-game has been found on the now Google-owned website.

To access the classic Missile Command arcade game, start playing any Youtube video, click away from the clip and type 1980.

The orginal video keeps playing but slides down the screen, making room for the game to start.

Rockets start heading towards the video and it’s your job to save it by intercepting them with your four gun turrets.

Other ‘Easter Eggs’ were hidden around Youtube for Geek Week, including wobbly videos when ‘use the force Luke’ is typed, plus videos displayed in a mathematical pattern when ‘Fibonacci’ is searched for.

Ponies run across the screen if ‘ponies’ is typed into the search bar.

‘Beam me up Scotty’ returns results as if they are being beamed up, Star Trek-style.

Google, which owns the website, is renowned for its almost-secret bonus features, known as ‘Easter Eggs’.

YouTube’s first ever Geek Week was advertised as a "celebration of all things geek", featuring videos on how geek culture had been formed and "geekery from around the world."

Look out for Duncan’s highlights from the first never Geek Week appearing on CBR imminently.
